It was all about hearts and horses on February 14, when the Rolling Hills Estates-based, Cowboy Boot Camp hosted a Valentine's Day wine tasting, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization, Palos Verdes Peninsula Horseman’s Association (PVPHA).
Dubbed Equine & Wine, the event drew more than 50 attendees who arrived via car, truck and horse to enjoy samplings of 13 varietals from the renowned Sonoma County winery, Trentadue.
At a time when many Southland equestrian communities are facing trail reduction and the closure of horse property and facilities, the PVPHA remains diligent in its efforts to preserve trails and support the area's horse community. For more than 30 years, the group has worked with local legislators, residents and other professionals to find ways to prevent horse property and trails from being over developed, closed or rezoned, at times taking unpopular stances with commercial and real estate developers.
“We thought this would be an ideal opportunity to showcase some extraordinary wines and allow the charitable efforts of our local equestrians to support for an organization that has direct impact in our community,” Cowboy Boot Camp's Jim Moore said of the event.
Trentadue’s President & CEO, Shawn Loggins, traveled down from Geyserville to Palos Verdes to share an enticing array of reds, California champagne and ports. “Having grown up with horses in the Southern California area, I see every day the impact of suburban sprawl and how many horses are being forced out as a result," he said. "I want my kids and their kids to enjoy equestrian sports and thought it would be ideal to join with Cowboy Boot Camp to support a very worthwhile group.”

Cowboy Boot Camp hosts clinics and demonstrations throughout the year. In March it offered the farrier-focused “No Feet, No Horse” clinic, as well as its annual Cowgirl Up Afternoon Retreat, with massages, facials and fun with horses. Upcoming clinics will explore “Tack Fitting,” “Proper Lounging Techniques for Exercise & Correction;” “The Pre-purchase Vet Check,” “Equine Dentistry,” and “Understand Bits Clinic;” among other topics.
